We have Todaiji(東大寺)in Nara with a huge Buddha image and Toji(東寺)in Kyoto, with Mandara near Kyoto Station.. A bit confusing. 東 means East and 大 means Big. Both are protected by 明王 Myoos with angry faces, set at the temple’s entrance, or the left side to Dainichi Nyorai. They are said to be the incarnation of “good” Budda (Nyorai or Bosatsu). It is said that they use angry faces to preach to people with angry faces and help them awaken to the truth! How lovely!! I posted the above image, like the Great Buddha in Nara…although it’s CG.. confusing??? ((´∀`)) https://www.todaiji.or.jp/en/
